The Lighthouse
I often take an afternoon walk about four miles down the coastline from a functioning lighthouse. This particular afternoon the sky was blue and bright and the ocean sparkled.
As I gazed toward the sea my eyes fixed upon the light atop the tiny lighthouse. But just as my focus fixed on the beam of light, it was gone from my sight. gain it would claim my attention. And again it was gone from sight.
I noticed a curious feeling inside, a sense of connection and disconnection which was very palpable. What was going on?
I began to count the number of seconds the light was gone from my sight. It was about six or seven seconds. Not long, but still significant.
I tend to want to see each new step on the path in front of me in life. I want to see a constant beam of light. When I can’t see, I feel unsure.
Our dreams are like that lighthouse beam. We dream of a different life or a different way of being in the world. The dream often seems to fade from sight. I believe it is a matter of focus and trust. Our dreams are there. They may simply be circling around one more time, gathering information and refinement.
